Guest of honour

Tonight is a very memorable night for me.

Aside from the 7million toto that I have been looking forward to since 2 days ago, I was invited to attend a company dinner and dance.

Well, it may seem awkward and impromptu. I didn't know how to respond to it as in to gracefully accept it or to supposedly reject the invite-out-of-courtesy kind of invitation.

I did both. That's usually the wisest choice.

And at that moment, when the invitation was advanced to me, my brain were working all at once. Thousands of thoughts were going through my mind. It's like being stuck in a lift with Angelina Jolie and thinking really hard of what to say to her.

First I politely said thank you for the invite and I am very honoured. And then I went, but not so nice-lah to be so out of place.

Finally, I decided to accept it gracefully. After all, how often do I get a MD to personally make a phone call to me.

And then I went, shucks, what have I gotten myself into.

See, thousands and one things going thru my mind.

Now, the dinner turned out to be so good that I actually wanted to be apart of the company.

Firstly, they had ice breaking games to move everyone about. Not that they need any moving about. The team spirit emit from this company is so great that it really feels like a big family altogether.
We first had to pick a leader from every table by pointing to that person when the Emcee called 1 to 3. An eight year old boy was sabotaged by their group member that he had to represent his table.

We were given a poker card and when the music goes, we had to find our other pair. I was holding on to a diamond 3 but I didn't find my other half. So I gave up and sat down to enjoy my steamed scallop served with asparagus, oblivious to my surrounding. I know. I can be such a spoil sport at times.

The next game, we were given an A4 paper each and we had to compete which team can make a paper aeroplane that could fly up the next floor. I then saw someone from other team crumpled the paper up into a ball so that they can just toss it up. Which is not wrong since they didn't specify what the plane has to look like.

Our team's paper plane didn't make it across the room, let alone up to the next storey.

When it came to the Big Boss's turn to toss the plane, the Emcee commented that even if the plane barely glide at the moment the boss throws it, we still have to give a grand cheer. Otherwise, no bonus will be paid out.

True enough, the plane simply plops on the floor and everyone cheered like we just won the world cup or something.

After that, we were given packs of straws to build the tallest tower. Apparently one table had an architect seated with them and everyone else felt challenged. Most towers looked like Eiffel but some just lay limp, looking like a home made by 3 little pigs blown by a wolf. Our tower didn't make it either. It was a major flop and we got boo-ed.

The next entertainment is really exciting. It got the crowd wild. There must be some kind of internal joke. 3 pairs had to do some kind of dance and when the last pair did cha cha, the temperature in the room just get higher and steamy. Everyone had their phone out for video, ready to be uploaded into youtube.

Everyone were fixated. And SEXCITED!

I had my fairshare of laughter and I felt like part of the family.

The lucky draw prizes were amazing. They were giving out air fryer and LED TV! By the time, they were giving out Ipad2, I was almost sure to resign and join this company instead.

And then they gave out iphone4s with 2 years contract signed (The Emcee joked that can only call back to office, everyone laughed) The winner who got the iPhone4 turned out to be a higher management and he went out to give a speech, how honoured he is to get one of the grand prizes and then he said, because I belonged to the China office, I will donate it back to Singapore team. Everyone else cheered and applaud.

This is very chivalrous of him and I felt commitment from a leader.

The Super Mega grand prize was a MacBook which has been gawked and eyeballed thru the night. I actually felt violated if I were the MacBook, having to be lusted this way.

And again, it was won by another management. So he came out and said, this lucky draw was actually pre arranged and he knew he will win the MacBook. (he got boo-ed. So, as we can all see, we have a sore audience)

And then he said, he will donate back for other employees to win it.

At this moment, I REALLY wanted to join this company.

The food? It was awesome! Genuinely 5 stars. I was served giant prawns, unlike other places where they serve shrimps.

Oh! I didn't win the 7million TOTO. I am gonna torch the XXX Pool building. (Of course, I do not literally mean this, just in case I am misunderstood)
