A new life begins

Lately, sis and I have been very intrigued with the life of butterflies. Give my sister a garden and she tells you tale of a gecko lizard all the way to the life of a caterpillar.

She's someone who picks up earth worms with her bare hands and as the worm wiggles away from her, she simply snaps photos of it, amazed with the way it moves.

Out of boredom, mom would ask us to play outside and get some sun instead of, according to her, sitting in front of the "electronic brain", beeping away. I suppose she is referring to the beeps as we clicked on the computer.

So we would go hunting for caterpillars off the lime tree.

Sis is able to give you tips on what sort of leaves they chew on. Not too hard and not too young, she would say.

Don't get her started because she would scramble through her collection of photos on caterpillars and you have to pay attention. Otherwise, she will pat and nudge with her elbow.

Yes. A photo album of just caterpillars. Sideways caterpillar eating leaves. Curled up caterpillar taking its nap or probably smiling at the camera, looking as though it wants its photo to be taken. Birdview caterpillar propelling itself with all its might on a keyboard from Letter A to Letter G.  I must stress that a caterpillar would never want to be looked upon from a bird's view. It simply means more bad news.

Once, my dad was so impressed with her, he told her to join the National Geographic team. He is unaware that National Geographic captures video of vicious animals such as sharks and hyenas, not bugs and chubby caterpillars.

As I watch my sister's home made video of a caterpillar  turning into a butterfly from a cocoon, I was so amazed with life. It would squirm and writhe, as if it is in great pain, just to get out its comfort zone into a world full of cannibals.

Yet, we whine and complain the dress that we like so much is sold out.

Sis said that the life of a butterfly lasts for 5 days.

WHAT??!

After all that struggling and squirming?
